Project Management - Execution

Search Site:

IT Bites > Services > Project Management > Execution

Defined by the Project Managers Institute as:

"coordinating people and other resources to carry out the plan"

Once the project starts in earnest, IT Bites will be looking to ensure that all project team members are fully tasked and aware of their responsibilities.

Typically, IT Bites likes each deliverable to be assigned to a Product Leader - someone accountable to the project manager for day-to-day delivery of the work. The 2 will agree at the outset the scope of the work to be undertaken and the key milestones for delivery. The leader will be given the responsibility of regular status reporting back to the P/M. This can then be factored into the broader project plan so that deviations can be identified as early as possible.

Alternately, every individual within the project can be tasked from within the main project plan. A system of status reporting back to the P/M can be established to keep this up to date.

Much will depend on the size of the project, but IT Bites is able to adapt to your preferred system. What is essential, however, are 3 key principles:

bulletWork is understood and accepted by the team member
bulletThe work is undertaken with appropriate status reporting
bulletThe work is handed over in a controlled fashion

In Prince 2 terms, Execution corresponds to the Managing Product Delivery (MP) process.
