Background

The Spirit Group took over Scottish & Newcastle Retail late in 2003 but decided to continue with the PeopleSoft Global Payroll implementation.

By February 2004 senior management was concerned at slippages that were occurring and with critical business drivers to go live, decided to seek additional project management resource to bolster the team. Given their experience not only with the Global Payroll product, but also their previous involvement with S&NR, IT Bites were appointed to this role.

Deliverables

  1. Review Project and drive towards Go Live

Delivery

Following a 2 week review of the project status, along with widespread discussion on problem areas, a new project plan was developed which aimed to simplify progress into smaller steps. This involved suspending much of the testing that was going on until a development freeze could be imposed. Once development was completed, a period of issue resolution was started that aimed to see a robust solution supplied to the users. A series of iterations would then be used to test the solution and fix new issues. The number of iterations was unknown, but would only conclude when users were happy to sign off and proceed to parallel running.

Unfortunately, during the execution of the plan, the business took the opportunity to review it's business drivers and concluded that, given the problems the project was having, that priorities had changed and the project was cancelled.
